Musical diary 2020

Here is the playlist of songs that marked my year.

Unsurprisingly, 2020’s list is dominated by tunes that remind me of the Covid-19 pandemic, and of being in lockdown. For instance, Under Pressure reminds me of the four of us living, working, schooling, exercising, etc… in a small flat; and The Middle reminds me of the first spin class that I joined, when gyms reopened. Pata Pata was a recommendation spotted on a lamp post, on one of my lockdown runs, and Vivaldi recomposed by Max Richter was recommended by a colleague, during the weekly meetings that our team held, throughout lockdown.

There are also reminders of life before Covid-19, such as “Take My Hand” which takes me back to the concert we all attended. And there are reminders of life despite the pandemic, such as Nuvole Bianchi, which was played at a dear friend’s funeral – which we joined via Zoom; or Rise Up, which reminds me of the Black Lives Matter demonstrations.

It’s not a joyful playlist, but it’s the soundtrack of my 2020. Which tunes marked your year?

PS – 2019’s list is here. The inspiration for the musical diary was this post from Austin Kleon.
