August was a travelling month. First, to attend a conference. Then, for time out with the family, which included one week with my parents at the beach (it’s been 20+ years since we last holidayed together. Bliss!). There was some work done around these, even if not much was “shipped”.

Research
The main event, research wise, was the AOM conference, in Boston. I attended various interesting sessions (including about generative AI in teaching and research), discussed work, got feedback, and planned collaborations. Win.
On the other hand, I learned that the application for the small research grant that I had submitted last May was not successful, and that the EOI to develop a toolkit for SMEs adopting AI-based marketing applications was deemed a weka fit with the funder that we had submitted it to. 😩
I also gave an interview about the Snakes & Ladders paper. I will share the link, when it’s published.
Writing
I worked on the supplementary materials (class exercises, teaching notes, datasets…) for the Research Methods book. This included using ChatGPT to generate some materials and editing others. There were some mistakes or poor suggestions. But, overall, I have to say that I found it very useful. The key really is giving it the prompts and, then, knowing enough about the topic and what makes for a good outcome to be able to judge the outputs.
Other than that, co-authors submitted two revised papers.
Teaching
I marked resits for one module, and the reports for the students who were away on their placement, in the last academic year.
Moreover, I held various meetings with dissertation students, and reviewed several drafts. Bearing in mind that submissions are between 7k and 10k words, that was a lot of reading! I also held various meetings with a student working on a summer research project (and reviewed her drafts).
I also submitted a proposal for a doctoral project, and I had meetings with a new PhD student.
Service
I reviewed various submissions to the special issue that Luis Martinez and I are guest editing. Moreover, I reviewed a submission as associate editor for the Journal of Marketing Management, and two submissions as reviewer for another journal.
How was your August?
