The month started really well. The announcement that I got the ethics position was exciting. However, it ended terribly with the announcement that Sussex is chopping 300 jobs. I am trying not to worry unnecessarily, but… it’s hard to focus on starting new projects and building things up when things are so grim everywhere you look.
I’m trying to focus on the positives, like managing another outdoor swimming session, and the fact that, what I feared would be a very expensive car repair turned out to be just a pebble stuck in the brake pads.
Research
I finished the grant application that I mentioned last month, and submitted it. We should be hearing the result in the New Year.
I also applied for a Sandpit, and had an idea for a research project related to the impact of generative AI training for doctoral students.
Writing
I finished the revisions for the paper that I mentioned last month, and submitted the paperwork.
My co-author Daniela Castillo worked on revisions for another paper, and submitted it. As the revisions were quite minor (and she did such a stellar job), the paper was accepted, and is now under production. I am looking forward to sharing it with you!
Made some progress on the customer insight paper, but I hit a bit of a roadblock on the sentiment analysis one.
Teaching
No teaching this month. Only supervisory meetings, and feedback on drafts. Ah, and planning for the next semester.
Service
Did some more work on the training programme for SeNSS students. This included setting up a session about personal branding. I also organized a seminar series about generative AI.
Reviewed three papers and a degree programme proposal.
That’s all for this month’s round-up. How are you managing in these turbulent times?

Terribly sorry to learn of these developments…
