Brrr… it’s really cold in my part of the world, at the moment. While we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK, I will say that I am immensely grateful that I have a warm house to return to, without having to worry too much about energy bills. I am also grateful to live in a country without war, and for the opportunity to listen to thought provoking talks – even if the message is anything but reassuring:
Research
The InterAct project is progressing well. We reviewed the literature on washing machines’ consumers’ attitudes towards new business models that support sustainable behaviours. After a very frustrating delay, we have secured ethical approval for the project, and moved on quickly with the key informant interviews. We are now gearing up for the focus groups with washing machine users.
The team looking at issues of health misinformation in multiple sclerosis had a very interesting meeting with the team behind Gregory MS. We are exploring ways we can support each other in this really important area of work.
Finally, I am trying to organise visiting fellowships for two very smart people that I am working with.
Writing
I submitted a conference paper looking at interactions between digital technology and empowerment vs stress. Now, I need to develop it into a journal article (and keep my fingers crossed that the conference paper gets accepted).
I also worked on two journal articles with colleagues. Trying to get these done before Christmas.
In other news, the Research Methods book is now available for pre-order.
Teaching
Teaching, this month, included the planning and delivery of workshops, reviewing and giving feedback in research topics, and allocating supervisors. Plus, numerous meetings with students to help them develop their research ideas.
Moreover, I started planning the module for next semester (Research methods for masters’ students); and examined a PhD.
Service
This month, I reviewed papers for the special interest group on Digital Marketing for the UKAIS conference; and also reviewed two journal papers.
Finally, I attended various presentations from job candidates at Sussex.
As we enter the last month of the year, and I try to wrap up various personal and professional projects, I am heeding the reminder that I added to my calendar, a couple of years ago:
How was your November?
