I hope your 2024 got off to a great start. Mine was very much a month in two halves: the first had a lot of momentum and I got many things ticket off from my to do list vs. the second, where things started to stall and I failed to make significant progress on a couple of items.
Research
I have finally made progress on appointing a research assistant for the InterAct research project. It’s great timing, too, as we need help with the transcription and analysis of the focus groups that took place in December. We are also looking at papers and future grants’ opportunities, to expand the work being done. Momentum.
I applied for internal funding to make some progress on the Gender and Money project, but did not get it. My co-investigator and I had some discussions about how to expand the previous work, but we are very busy at the moment. So, this will need to be parked until the end of February. Stalling.
Had a very good meeting regarding the AI project. Solid progress there. Also had a good meeting about the digital health literacy project, but further progress is on hold until mid February. Finally, I had an idea for a project related to the Future Data services call, but the person I wanted to do it with is not available at the moment. So, that did not go anywhere.
Writing
All the preparatory work that had been done in the last 2-3 months came together this month. All together, I submitted or was part of the submission of:
- Conference papers: One
- Journal papers: Two
- Extended abstracts: Three
- Grant application: One
I also worked on another grant application. Though, to be fair, it was the Principal Investigator that did most of the work, and my contribution was more in terms of providing information that he requested, or making suggestions in the form.
I failed to make any significant progress on two papers. One is due in February, and the other one is very much overdue. Seriously stalling, there.
We also got a revise and resubmit for a previous journal article submission. Lots of work ahead but, hey, at least it is making progress.
Teaching
Wrapped up the marking for assessment 1 (of 3) for the Dissertation module. Reviewed many ethics applications for the dissertation students, and a literature review chapter.
Prepared the virtual learning environment, assessment, two workshops and a lecture for the new semester, which started at the end of the month. If you are a manager, or a business researcher, could you take a look at this blog post, and share your experiences, examples and suggestions with me?
Service
Reviewed a paper for a journal.
A friend reminded of the importance to stop and smell the flowers.
Did your 2024 get off to a good start?
