March 2025 round-up

March was a good month. Sure, hay fever is annoying and  it wasn’t fun to deal with a trapped nerve. But there were also many highlights such as running in nice weather, kicking off the SeNSS training series on GenAI in research with my AI literacy session, or joining a panel of AI experts, to discuss the future of sales.

Here is an overview of what I got up to, in March.

Research

My colleague Maria Restuccia and I attended the kick off meeting for the research project that I mentioned last month, following the development and launch of an agentic AI product.

I also participated in meetings for a project on using AI to support calls’ triage at an emergency call centre.

Writing

We continued working on the grant application for a project about tackling online violence against women and girls (a project that is gaining even more relevance considering the Netflix series, Adolescence). I also did some work on a grant application to use AI to support learning in schools in economically deprived areas.

As for papers, I finally managed to share a complete draft of the customer insight paper with my co-authors. I also had a meeting with another team to work on revisions on the ChatGPT paper. Plus, I received feedback on the digital wellbeing paper.

Finally, I submitted evidence about the use of AI in anti-money laundering detection, to a parliamentary enquiry.

Teaching

I developed the syllabus and assignment briefs for the MBA module that I started teaching this month and delivered 2 full-day sessions. I invited managers to deliver guest talks on “Research in Practice”, which the class seemed to enjoy.

I also continued teaching on the MSc module, which included having to teach a session without slides because, 5 minutes into my lecture, the projector’s lamp blew off.

This month, I also met the two students that applied for the JRA projects that I proposed, and gave feedback on their proposals. I also delivered the AI literacy session for SeNSS, and attended the “3 minutes PhD presentations”.

Service

I reviewed ethics applications, and one paper.

In my role as deputy director for the SeNSS doctoral network, I assessed various studentship applications and planned the summer conference.
