Last week I ran a session on Digital Marketing Campaigns, for the MBA class at City University Hong Kong. Nelson Jordan – a former student of mine who went on to pursue a very successful career in marketing – joined us as a guest speaker. We talked about his career, the range of clients he has worked with, how he works with clients, how to generate goals for a digital marketing campaign, the type of analysis he does and the tools that he uses most often, developing buzz campaigns, and pitfalls to avoid when working on a campaign.

I also asked Nelson how he goes about planning a digital marketing campaign. He emphasised the importance of starting with clear goals, and of developing customer insight, before looking at specific platforms or channels. Here is his full answer:
